Mounting a fiberglass front clip or mounting fenders at the door line with Dzus fasteners for quick removal is a lengthy process, and in most cases is tricky to fabricate the mounting structures to get good alignment with the Dzus fasteners, and maintain a sturdy and clean install of the front clip. Bending chromoly tubing, welding tabs in the right place, making sure fitment to the door is as perfect as possible, and making sure it all matches side to side, let’s face it, it’s tough.
We set out to make a few steps in this process a bit easier, simplifying the mounting structure for the fenders from top to bottom at the door line on your 79-93 Fox Body Mustang with our fender mounting kit.
The mounts use the existing outer bolts on the door hinges on the chassis, with slotted holes to be able to match both sides and maintain equal mounting locations for the three Dzus fasteners on each side. Each Dzus mount tab is slotted to adjust to the inside of the fender, making fender to door alignment quick and easy.
The kit also includes two upper brackets that mount on the side of the cowl to hold the top of the fender with two Dzus fasteners per side.
In conjunction to ease of mounting, we made our chassis brackets fit inside the fender with as tight of a fit as possible to help eliminate one of the biggest issues with running fiberglass doors, which is not allowing the air that gets trapped behind the fender which can ultimately push between the door and the cockpit of the car that tries to push out on the door and in some cases ends up ripping the door off the chassis at high speeds.
